The dictionary is multi-functional, i.e. it can be used for text production, text reception and text translation. At the moment terms are translated in three languages, namely Afrikaans, Xhosa and English. Explanations, that is definitions of terms and subject fields to which the terms belong, are supplied in English. Linguistic information, for example information on the part of speech and information on usage, is supplied in English. It is foreseen that the information will be supplied in Afrikaans and Xhosa as well in a later phase of the project.

Most of the terms in the dictionary have been supplied with subject fields. The subject field "viticulture" includes, for example, terms relating to organic growth and production, soil science, plant biotechnology, vine viruses and plant improvement. The subject field "oenology" makes provision for the terminology of production technology, bottling, packaging and distribution, as well as microbiology. In a nutshell, the dictionary supplies information on the physiology of the vine, the fruit of the vine, and the winemaking process.
